Thank you for sharing this, Jeff. I think you guys handled his questions very well, and I'm impressed that your son could ask all of those questions in the first place. You're well on your way to answering those other difficult questions that are yet to come! :)

I found your posts very interesting. I have been battling dental issues my entire life it seems. I have numerous baby teeth with no adult teeth underneath. The toughest to deal with are my front bottom six teeth. So far I have had the front four extracted and wear a "flipper." my regular dentist believes that I will need a bone graft before my lower mandible is large enough to accommodate the implants that I so desperately need. Considering insurance won't touch the implants, I'm trying to figure out a way to pay for the surgery and also find a big enough chunk of time to be off work. Since I am a teacher, summer seems like my best option. I am hopefully going to get something going this summer. Wish me luck!

Unfortunately, Commando does suffer (a bit) from Horner's tendency to re-use certain favorite motifs from score to score. Horner's music for the opening titles is lifted directly from his soundtrack for 48 Hrs. (exact same opening titles track). It makes me curious if the opening title track from 48 Hrs. was used in the temporary score and that inspired the choice for Horner to pen the real score.

Jeff, I had the same reaction to the song "Belle" the first time I saw the movie. Those few short minutes were able to set up the story and the characters in such a wonderful and charming way. I knew right then that this movie was going to be something special.

I also saw the same stage version at the Shubert Theater (RIP) in Los Angeles (twice, in fact!). My first time was early in the run and I did get to see both Susan Egan and Terrance Mann. Sadly, perhaps Mann was not having a good night, as he was just not bringing the same excitement to the stage character as he had brought to the the Cast Recording. And while I did I enjoy Egan's performance, it did leave me a bit puzzled. Occasionally, short flashes of sarcasm would creep into Belle's character. Nothing major, but also nothing I would have expected from the movie Belle. A few years later, I was reading an interview with Egan and she said that while she was performing Belle at night in Los Angeles, she was also recording the character of Meg from "Hercules" during the day. And she would catch herself letting little bits of Meg's character slip into her Belle. So, I must have caught her on one of these evenings! :-)

I didn't realize that there were differences between the pressings on the original album. I just checked and I have the first version. That isn't too surprising since I bought it the day after the movie opened. :)

Which version of the original soundtrack do you have? There were two versions that were released.

Version 1 has a printed running time of 50:11, while version 2 has a printed running time of 50:55.

Version 1 has an incorrect printed running time of 3:12 for the Prologue, while version 2 has the correct running time of 2:27.

Version 1's West Wing has a running time of 3:39, while version 2's has a running time of 4:22. The two versions of the track are identical until 2:17. On version 1, the track changes to the cue where The Beast escorts Belle to her room (just after she took her father's place). On version 2, the track continues with the cue Belle running away from the castle, being chased by the wolves, and being rescued by The Beast. Interestingly enough, the version of West Wing on The Music Behind the Magic is just the first 2:17 used in both these versions. The Special Edition soundtrack uses the same cut of West Wing as version 2.

Finally, version 1's Transformation starts with the alternate (unused) version of the cue used for The Beast's death that is found on The Music Behind the Magic and the Special Edition soundtrack; the track continues with cue used for The Beast's transformation. Version 2's Transformation is the final version used in the film.

Jeff:

I'm really enjoying the journey through your soundtrack collection. Thanks for taking the time to do it.

You might know this, but there was an album released for "Airplane" shortly after the movie came out. It wasn't a soundtrack in the traditional sense, but rather a narrated re-telling of the story interspersed with selected dialogue, music, and sound effects from the original film. While it was no substitute for a real soundtrack, it was definitely better than nothing, and got a lot of spins on my old record player. Sadly, my copy of that LP vanished sometime after I went off to college.

I found your article and website very interesting. It's definitely a great resource for information regarding dental implants, tooth implants.
I just added you to my list of bookmarked websites. Keep up the good work. Look forward to reading more from you in the future.

The response from the staff is pretty disappointing. You should write a letter to Marriott relations about your experience. Remember that many hotels are franchisees, and in the event that the hotel is a franchisee, when their agreement with Marriott comes up for renewal, your letter could influence Marriott's decision.

As for the giftcard, during the last weekend of July, Pam and I stayed at the Courtyard in Emeryville. They too did not have any giftcards in stock. Ours arrived two weeks ago; so you should receive yours in a few more weeks.
